(gentle music) – Hi, thank you for choosing LaserAway for CoolSculpting. As leaders in the aesthetic industry, we want you to feel comfortable and secure knowing that you're in excellent hands. Keep in mind that CoolSculpting is a body contouring treatment that is meant to supplement an existing healthy lifestyle and not replace it.
This means diet and exercise is of paramount importance to achieving optimal results. While there are no mandatory pre-care instructions, I'm going to take you through the general recommendations to have the most pleasant experience possible. In addition, I will walk you through what to expect during the actual treatment. So let's get started.
Number one, wear comfortable clothes. During the treatment, you will be asked to change into disposable undergarments. However, after the treatment, you may have some swelling, tenderness, and discomfort, so please have comfortable, loose-fitting clothing to change into. We also recommend wearing shoes that are easy to slip on and off for walking to the restroom between applicators.
Number two, eat. It is important that you eat a healthy meal prior to coming in for your appointment. The treatment can last several hours depending on the number of cycles needed for your area of concern. That being said, with the exception of treating the submental chin area, you can actually eat and drink during your appointment.
So please pack your favorite healthy snacks and beverages. Number three, bring entertainment. There will be a TV with cable in your treatment room and access to WiFi. You are welcome to bring a book, electronic device, or some form of entertainment to keep you occupied throughout your treatment, as long as it is something that you can enjoy while remaining still.
Number four, and this is optional. Bring over-the-counter pain relief. Mild to moderate discomfort is expected during and after a CoolSculpting treatment. So you may consider taking ibuprofen prior to coming in for your appointment and as needed for the days following your treatment.
Bruising is also a normal expected side effect, so you may consider taking Arnica tablets a few days prior to your treatment to decrease the risk of bruising as well as decrease the amount of time that bruising may last. Number five, clean the treatment area. Ensure that the area to be treated is clean, dry, intact, and free of any topical products, with no evidence of rashes, eczema, dermatitis, infection, any open wounds, bruising, sun burn, blisters, et cetera. If you are unsure about any of this, please notify your clinic before coming in.
Now that we've covered general guidelines of how to prepare, let's talk about what you can expect during the actual treatment. To begin, you will be escorted to a private treatment room, and asked to change into disposable undergarments provided by us. Then, your clinician will take your before photos, assess the area to be treated, and draw markings on your skin for perfect applicator placement. After that, you will lie comfortably on a treatment chair and your clinician will prepare the treatment site by cleaning it and placing a protective gel pad on the skin.
Then, your clinician will apply the treatment applicator to the treatment site, which may feel like a tugging, pulling, and pinching sensation, as the applicator has a strong suction that helps draw the pocket of fat into it. Once the applicator is secure, the cooling process will begin. At this time, the treatment site will gradually get colder and colder, which can be slightly uncomfortable, but is extremely tolerable. After about 10 minutes into the cycle, the tissue typically goes completely numb.
It is extremely important that you remain still while the applicator is on to ensure it does not lose suction. Since you will be required to stay still for 35 to 75 minutes, a pager will be provided so that you can alert your clinician with anything you may need. During the treatment, you are free to take a nap, read, watch TV, eat a light snack, or just simply relax. Once the cycle is complete, the pocket of fat will have reached the appropriate temperature, and your clinician will then remove the applicator.
Next, she will perform a vigorous massage to break up the crystallized fat cells. While this may feel a bit uncomfortable or ticklish, this is critical to achieving optimal results. Fortunately, it will only last about two minutes, and then you will be able to stand up, stretch your legs, and use the restroom while the clinician prepares the applicator for the next treatment cycle, if applicable. So now that you know what to expect, make sure to keep us updated on your medical history so we may identify any contraindications.
This would include pregnancy, breast feeding, surgery in the treatment area less than one year ago, active implanted electronic devices, like a pacemaker, a history of hernia in the area, impaired peripheral sensation, autoimmune disease, and especially any cold-induced autoimmune disorders. Please also inform us of any medications you take daily or as needed, as it may be necessary to postpone your treatment.
